How to convert PNG to JPG
- Add your PNG files. Drag them into the box or choose files.
- Check that the output is set to JPG, then click Convert.
- Download each JPG, or all of them as a ZIP.
What to expect when you convert PNG to JPG
- Transparent areas turn white. JPG can't be transparent, so Pixformat fills transparent areas with white.
- Photos shrink; graphics may not. JPG compression suits photographs, and a PNG photo often becomes much smaller. Screenshots, text and flat-color graphics can show blur around edges and may not get smaller at all. Pixformat shows a minus or plus percentage on every file, so you can check.
- Quality is fixed. JPG is lossy, and Pixformat saves it at a fixed quality of about 85%. There is no quality slider.
When to keep the PNG
Keep the PNG for logos, icons, screenshots with small text, and anything you plan to edit again or place on a transparent background. If you need a smaller photo, JPG is usually the better choice.
PNG to JPG: common questions
Why did my transparent PNG get a white background?
JPG doesn't support transparency, so Pixformat fills transparent areas with white. To keep transparency, keep the PNG.
Will my screenshot look worse as a JPG?
It can. JPG is designed for photos, and sharp edges and small text may look softer. Compare the result with your original before replacing it.
How much smaller will the JPG be?
It depends on the image. Photos often shrink a lot, while flat graphics may not. Each file shows its size change.
Can I choose the JPG quality?
No. Pixformat uses a fixed quality of about 85%.
What if I need the PNG back later?
Keep your originals. A JPG can't recover detail it compressed away, but you can still convert it with the JPG to PNG converter.
